Why do we give chocolate on Valentine’s Day? (M.M)

As we all know, chocolate is the most romantic candy for any relationship, but do you know why?

The Mayans were the first people to connect love and chocolate. The Mayans brewed drinks from cocoa beans around 500 BCE before the first feast of St. Valentine. St Valentine was a part of the Mayan Wedding rituals. During the ceremony, brides and grooms would exchange sips of the beverage, which foreshadowed the emergence of chocolate as the universal status of love.

“Chocolate does contain small amounts of tryptophan and phenylethylamine, two chemicals associated with feelings love and desire,” says the Mental Floss website at mentalfloss.com

Do you think chocolate should be the universal symbol of Valentine’s?
