Our cat-loving English teacher

Mrs. Medley is an 11th and 12th grade English teacher who loves her cats.

What made you want to be a teacher?

“I have always wanted to be a teacher. I would literally play school with my grandma over the summer.”

Have you always taught at Northwest?

“No, I have been at NW for the past 11 years. I also taught at West Davidson, which is the high school that I attended, and I was the Director at Sylvan Learning Center.”

How long have you taught?

“I finished my teaching degree later than I expected, so I have only been teaching for 17 years.”

Do you like being back in school?

“I do. I deeply enjoy the relationships that I build with my students and that was difficult to do virtually. However, I did enjoy teaching virtually and hanging out with my cats all day.

What are greatest accomplishments in teaching?

“I love when students come to me and tell me that they never really enjoyed reading until my class. We read some unusual books and stories.”

Why did you choose English to teach?

“I get to read and talk about books. Perfection!!

Outside of school what are you passionate about?

What college did you go to?

Have you always wanted to be a teacher? If not, what else did you want to be?

“If I weren’t teaching, I would love to start my own cat rescue and café/bookstore. Books, coffee & cats! Sounds perfect to me!”
