In the modern world we live in, there are great issues that trouble the world daily. Factors like war and ecological troubles are among these daily troubles, but people actively work against them by donating money or putting focus on these issues.

“(Celebrities) have the money and influence to help,” junior Audrey Milks said.

Celebrities have the ability to not only donate large sums of money but also the capability to get others to assist in an issue they consider important. While many celebrities donate or assist causes, others start their own charity.

“Adam Driver started a charity called Arts in the Armed Forces,” Milks said.

Arts in the Armed Forces (AITAF) attempts to start conversation with “military and civilians, service members and family members, the world of arts and the world of practical action.” AITAF’s website states it has been around 10 years and helped over 13,000 members of the armed forces.

AITAF features many artists, such as Adam Driver, its founder, but also prominent people like Ben Stiller, Keri Russell and Justin Long. There are other lesser known artists as well, but all of them are still working toward getting members in the armed forces to speak through means of art.

“I think Arts in the Armed Forces really is something amazing to help with because it’s about providing a day of entertainment and relaxation for the people who work so hard to keep our country safe,” Milks said. “But there are so many charities that are just as important and incredible.”

While making sure our armed forces are able to enjoy themselves, other celebrities use their influence to assist more globalized issues.

“I consider Mr Beast to be a charitable celebrity because he donates a lot of money and raises money for good causes, for example raising money to plant 20 million trees,” ”

“MrBeast” (aka Jimmy Donaldson) is an American YouTube star and social media personality, who is well known for his philanthropic efforts, whether donating to twitch streamers or the homeless.

“I consider MrBeast to be a charitable celebrity because he donates a lot of money and raises money for good causes, for example raising money to plant 20 million trees,” junior Scarlet Bouthiette said.

One major event of philanthropy Donaldson is known for is Team Trees, a program that allowed individuals to donate a dollar for a tree to be planted, with the goal to raise 20 million trees or rather $20 million.

“Obviously it’s good because so many trees are being planted, but it’s also good to know there is hope out there, that people can come together and do something to improve the world they live in,” Bouthiette said.

The question should then be asked, if a dollar can plant a tree or help someone out, how much should the average person donate?

“The average person could spare at least $10,” Milks said. “I would believe because it’s not too much and not too little.”

However, not everyone agrees with this.

“An average person like you and me shouldn’t have a limit or a maximum,” Bouthiette said, “we are capable of making individual decisions.”

At the end of the day, it is one’s own decision who to donate to, how much to donate and when to donate.

“If you have the money to help I think no matter if you’re a celebrity or not, it’s a good thing to do,” Milks said.
