With a record of 27-2 and a conference title under their belt, the Vikings volleyball team has had numerous successes this season. The team is currently competing in the NCHSAA state playoffs, where they have advanced to the fifth round. This was no easy feat, as the volleyball team has lost in the third round of playoffs for three consecutive years. Senior outside-hitter Brennan Berry was determined to break this streak going into her senior season.

“Since my freshman year, we’ve always gotten out on the third round,” Berry said. “This year we have worked so hard to get to where we are now… we’re hoping to make it all the way to the championship.”

In efforts to secure another win and advance to the state championship, the players have been working tirelessly, alongside the help of the Northwest Student Body.

“So far, the students have been amazing,” Berry said. “Having such a big student section cheering us on makes (the state playoffs) even more exciting.”

The volleyball team is hosting the regional championship on Tuesday versus Ardrey Kell. Free Chick-Fil-A sandwiches are promised to the first 75 students, in hopes that there will be a large student turnout. As for now, the Viking volleyball community and players are eagerly preparing for Tuesday’s game and the possibility of the team’s first state title.

“The (regional championship) game is our biggest one yet,” Berry said. “I’m confident we’ll be able to pull out another win and make it to the state championship.”
