Last Friday night, the buzzer sounded and with smiles plastered among their faces, the athletes ran to their goalie. The varsity girls’ lacrosse team secured their eighth win in a row against Ragsdale High School; now, they are heading into the week still undefeated.

Coached by Kristen Herndon, this team has proved to be a dominant force so far and have big goals for the season.

“I definitely see us heading to states,” Herndon said. “Hopefully we’ll win a couple of games there, if not all of them. It’s something I look forward to.”

With 98 goals and 39 assists for the season currently, the high scoring team averages around 20 points a game. On the defensive side, the goalies have had 68 saves and a .641 save percentage so far.

When asked about what has made this team so successful, the first time head coach and alumna of the team commended their skill and talent.

“I’m trying to have more team camaraderie and developing the culture of the team,” Herndon said. “I hope that attributes to us playing well.”

The determination and teamwork of this team also contributes to the end result.

“Everyone is so willing to work hard and are encouraging,” freshman Carlie Saums said.

Looking to the future, the team looks to secure the conference championship. They are 5-0 right now, but will have three conference games this week against Grimsley, Northern and Ragsdale.
