Maybe it was the stellar defense, or maybe it was that doughnut before the game, but without a doubt, this 16-point game was not the most action-packed Super Bowl as they have been in previous years.

I was very frustrated because neither team could score”

— Senior Cal Liska

,”

For the majority of the first half, the Patriots kept the ball in the midfield, unable to score on the Rams’ defense.

“On both sides, the defense was really good, which kept me interested,” sophomore Kyle Eiben said.

At halftime the score was 3-0, which is the second-lowest score in history, the lowest being Super Bowl IX, lead by the Steelers 2-0.

“I went from wanting the rams to win to just wanting anyone to score and not really caring who won,” Liska said.

While this game game was the lowest-scoring Super Bowl in history, it was the Patriots’ largest margin of victory in any Super Bowl.

Perhaps the halftime show, or at least the controversy surrounding it piqued viewers’ interest, as Maroon 5 headlined the show. Reportedly, P!nk and Rihanna both declined the offer to perform in support of Colin Kaepernick, promoting a stand against police brutality. As a condition for their participation, Maroon 5 and Travis Scott both requested that the NFL make donations to non-profit organizations such as Dream Corps.

“The halftime show wasn’t that bad, but I would have preferred Rihanna. However, I think Rihanna taking a stand and declining the offer is staying true to her beliefs, and I respect her decision,” senior Cayla King said.

In the performance, many well-recognized songs were played such as “Girls Like You” by Maroon 5 and “Sicko Mode” by Travis Scott.

“I liked the performers, but the halftime show was rough. Adam Levine was doing too much extra stuff and not actually singing,” Liska said.
