Located in the heart of one of Greensboro’s most historical neighborhoods, Scrambled, a southern diner, serves delicious breakfast and lunch meals with the use of fresh local products.
Scrambled is open seven days a week, from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends. The restaurant serves breakfast all day and lunch after 11 a.m.
The restaurant’s menu varies from weekdays to weekends. On weekdays, the restaurant has a Blue Plate Special, which varies from day to day: On Monday the meal is meatloaf, Tuesday is chicken & dumplings, Wednesday is their Carolina BBQ Beef Brisket Sandwich, Thursday the meal is Fried Chicken and Friday’s meal features Fried Catfish.
As rated the “Number 1 Breakfast Place in Greensboro” on Trip Adviser, their rating holds it name. Despite the cramped eating area and the hour-long wait, the food was mouthwatering.
We ordered the superior “Chicken Little,” which was an average price at $12.25 before tax. The unique take on eggs benedict was divine. The meal comprised of one buttery biscuit, sharp cheddar cheese, flavorful sausage gravy, two savory poached eggs and two small pieces of fried chicken. The fried chicken had a well spiced crispy batter with juicy chicken underneath. As a side, we ordered the hash browns, which were cooked to crispy perfection. The combination of unique and locally sourced ingredients combined to make a delicious meal.
We also ordered a Caramel Latte with the french bread platter. The latte had a well-balanced flavor, combing the sweetness of caramel with the bitterness of coffee in a picture-perfect, crystal mug. The french toast was cooked expertly, the cinnamon not overpowering and the egg present but not the whole meal. The hash browns were scattered, seasoned and fried perfectly. The taste was reminiscent to ‘potato cakes’ sold at most Christmas Markets in Germany.
Overall, Scrambled is a great, affordable place to eat, if you don’t mind waiting for a hour. Personally, we worked on school work and went to a nearby Insomnia Cookies while we waited, as they use a text-based reservation system, allowing you to be anywhere while you wait.
