As January progresses and winter sports continue, many students are anticipating February and spring sport tryouts. These tryouts, which start on Feb. 13, will vary in length for each sport. Spring sports include: girls’ and boys’ track, girls’ and boys’ lacrosse, girls’ soccer, boys’ tennis, boys’ golf, softball and baseball.

Some teams are having preseason training to prepare for the upcoming season. This allows for athletes to get in better condition and to begin bonding as a team.

The girls’ soccer team is among several teams to begin their workouts early. The team has weight training and injury prevention workouts on Tuesdays and Thursdays. They also have technical ball-handling training on Mondays.

“I’m very excited for the upcoming season,” sophomore Elizabeth Cake said. “We have a very talented group of girls who have been putting in lots of work to get better.”

The boys’ lacrosse team is also continuing to put in work well ahead of their regular season. They have trained in the mornings and afternoons since fall. With the workouts changing every other time, this allows for a full range of muscles to be exercised.

“The team’s determination is higher than ever,” junior Taylor Soukup said. “Everything we do together and apart is to make sure we are ready for this season.”

The team is excited and anticipating the upcoming season. They know that the work they put in now will benefit them later when the season starts.

“We will come out prepared and make ourselves a dangerous team to play against,” Soukup said. “We all love the sport, and we are happy to be back this season competing.”

If you are interested in playing a spring sport, contact that team’s head coach for more information. Tryout times and locations will be decided and announced closer to the first day.
