As class starts for the new school year students face the question, what will I wear? Although some students may question the importance of dressing up to go back to school, there is an overall trend of students who dress nicely for the first few weeks of school.

“Dressing up and being fashionable on the first day of school is so that you have more confidence in yourself, you don’t need to dress up cute for anyone, it can be just for yourself,” junior Michelle Seman said.

Aside from the debate about the importance of back to school fashion, here are some of the popular clothing trends seen around the campus this back to school season.

From flannels to dresses, plaid has taken the back to school fashion scene by storm. Once a popular trend in the 1990s fashion scene, it has made a comeback, along with many other 90s fashion trends. The pattern is popular among boys and girls, making it a staple piece in many students’ wardrobe. It can be styled in various ways, preppy to grunge. Plaid can be dressed up, in the form of a skirt, paired with a blouse, or, more commonly among the school, in the form of a flannel paired with a t-shirt and jeans.

Denim skirts

Or simply with an oversized sweater and white sneakers.

Floral

It is used universally in the fashion world from prints to patches. Florals are commonly seen on shirts, shoes, and pants this back to school season.

Boyfriend jeans
