In the months of May and June, you’ll have a chance to groove for a good cause. The BB&T Beach Music in the Park is back.

“I love going to Beach Music and shagging,” junior Virginia Bellenkes said. “It’s so fun to be able to dance with your friends and just listen to good music.”

For 14 years, Children’s Home Society (CHS) of NC has brought shaggers to Downtown Greensboro and has raised more than $500,000 to support the children and families that they support. Beach Music is a family friendly event raising awareness and funds for the services provided by CHS.

CHS meets the needs of North Carolina’s children and families by providing many different programs and services. While they are known for their adoption services, CHS also provides post adoption services, foster care, parenting education, family preservation, teen pregnancy prevention and family finding services.

The five-week concert series starts the last Thursday of May and runs every Thursday through the month of June from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. at LeBauer Park.  Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the gate.

“I always look forward to Beach Music when summer comes around,” senior Katelyn Drawbaugh said.

At Beach Music, people can enjoy great music, dancing, and food.  In front of the band, there is a dance floor where all the shagging takes place.  Lawn chairs, blankets and dancing shoes are always welcome.

The bands that will be playing at this year’s Beach Music are Sleeping Booty, The Tams, The Embers, Band of Oz, and Chairmen of the Board. All five groups are considered in rock ‘n’ roll circles as ‘blasts from the past’ or ‘golden oldies.’  They all have been playing beach music for decades.

“The energy at beach music is so uplifting and really puts you in a good mood,” senior Juliana Ganim said. “I love to dance and, the live music is so great for that.”
