Undefeated. This is a word that seldom describes a season, but Northwest’s boys’ lacrosse team has earned it in conference play this year. In defeating East Forsyth on Friday the 28th of April, the boys’ team won the conference title for Northwest.. They are now playing in the state championship with their first win on Friday, May 5th against Hough.

“The excitement of [being in state playoffs] is really flowing through the whole team,” sophomore and JV player Gavin Turnmire said. “[Even JV] is pumped.”

The boys’ JV team has also had a great season, almost reaching the bar that the Varsity players have set. The JV season is over now, having an almost undefeated conference run as the Varsity did, but instead having one conference loss to Lake Norman.

“We had a good run,” Turnmire said. “We had a lot of fun too, [and now] everyone is ready for Varsity to perform at states.”

The Varsity’s win against Hough Friday began their run for victory during the state championship. This was the second time that the vikings faced them, beating the huskies 13 to 7, after winning the first outing 14 to 4.

“We tried not to be too [overconfident],” sophomore and Varsity goalie Josh Toler said. “But we knew that we would not have too much trouble in that game.”

The next state game is May 9th against Charlotte Catholic. This will be the Vikings second state game and their attempt at getting into the elite eight of the bracket. They will be the third seed playing against number five.
