Dear littluns (this is a Lord of the Flies reference),

Welcome to Northwest Guilford High School!

You are probably very scared, but very excited, for the next four years. A new environment, new people and new classes are all at your fingertips.

“Don’t be scared to ask a teacher or a student for help on getting around the school,” senior Kaitlyn Grube said. “It’s easy to navigate, so do not be scared.”

From fellow seniors and juniors, I hope that you take advantage of your high school career. Use this time to not only learn a plethora of new things, but to cherish all of the moments that you will have; cherish all of the football games, dances, and friends that you will make during the next four years. But most of all, cherish even the rough times.

“Try to establish a regular sleep schedule,” junior Elyza Espinosa said. “Don’t let yourself get behind in classes and don’t let rank stop you from taking classes that you’re genuinely interested in.”

Stress is inevitable, and in an environment where everyone seems so academically driven and talented, stress will come, I guarantee it.

You will probably feel pressured to take a lot of AP classes, but as Espinosa said, you should not let that stop you from taking classes that you are genuinely interested in.

Now, I know that this sounds scary. But if you work hard, you will reap in the benefits and all of the stress will dissipate when you walk that stage and receive your high school diploma.

The world is your oyster. Seize the day; the world is yours to conquer.
