Senior Ian Adams wins the match against his opponent from Ragsdale.

The crowd and teams watched in anticipation. The wrestling match against Ragsdale High School proved to be a tough one for Northwest. Both teams were neck and neck as each match progressed. Early on, the team suffered some tough losses; however, the momentum started to pick up once the middle and upper weight classes gained some wins. Going into the last match of the night, Northwest was down 28-29, so sophomore Riley Edwards had to win for the team to win.

Edwards majored his opponent, which pushed Northwest to win 33-29. The crowd, full of parents and students, celebrated after being so immersed in the last match. The Vikings have been preparing for the conference matches throughout the season. They still have to work on securing the conference championship by beating Page and Grimsley. After the conference championship, the boys will be working towards a dual team title.

“As a team, we’ve been putting in a lot of hard work in the practice room,” senior Finn Queen said.

The Vikings hope to come out victorious with a conference championship title to add to the successful season that they have had so far.

“I’m proud of how much we’ve accomplished,” senior Ian Adams said. “I look forward to seeing how far we can go as a team.”
