Things I wish I had known when starting high school

I asked Northwest seniors what they wish they had known before starting high school, and these are some of Northwest Horizons’s favorite responses.

Would you go back and do anything differently if you had the chance?

”Focus more on school, and don’t let outside things distract me from what really matters.”

”I would make the most out of every opportunity. There are so many wonderful experiences that high school offers, and you can make so many friends.”

What is one piece of advice you would tell your freshman self?

“Participate in a club or sports team.”

”Your grades do NOT determine your self worth. Doing your best is enough.”

Beginning high school is a very hard thing; what are some things you wish you had known before starting high school?

”You’ll quickly get accustomed to high school, and it’s not as scary as it seems.”

How to manage my time better.”

”Not everything will go your way and you must be okay with that. Also, please go through with your plans.”

“That being popular or having a lot of friends determines who you are and focusing on school would be smarter than focusing on drama.”

“Enjoy it. It is not the easiest 4 years, but it is very rewarding in the end.

“Allow yourself to learn and grow because you will learn a lot about yourself. Be open to everything. Make new friends and do all that you want to do. Don’t be afraid to say hello to someone new.”

High school can be intimidating, but as long as you try your best and put forth your best effort, it can also be a lot of fun.
