Senior spotlight: Chase Caldwell

Caldwell at the fall festival of 2018. He was waiting to help load and unload percussion equipment for the bands that came to perform.

What is your favorite subject? Why?

My favorite subject for my senior year is AP Physics because it explains what certain things happen in the world. My favorite overall class would be Honors Chemistry primarily because the teacher was very fun, and I’ve had an interest in chemistry for a long time.

Who is your favorite teacher? Why?

My favorite teacher would be Ms. Pidsosny. She was my chemistry teacher. She did fun projects in the class, made brownies as an incentive for the class (they were really good), and was overall a good teacher.

Have you joined any clubs at Northwest? If so, what are they and why did you join them?

I never officially joined a club, but I would go to Smash Bros. competitions held by the Nintendo Club, and if I had known about the DnD club beforehand I would’ve joined that club, but I never got the chance to.

Do you have any academic achievements? If so, what are they?

I’ve received scholarships from both High Point University and George Mason University. I have also been a part of Honors Band hosted by UNCG, All County Band, and I just got accepted for All District Band.

How have your extracurriculars affected your high school experience?

My extracurriculars included the Marching Band we have here at school. The marching band helped me develop myself as a person and helped me get out of my shell; I got to know some very good friends because of marching band, and it helped me socialize a lot more than I would if I didn’t do it.

What has been your best experience at Northwest?

My best experience at Northwest would have to be the marching band, more specifically the Fall Festivals we would host. It was an amazing time for me whenever we did the Fall Festival because it was just so enjoyable being able to see the different bands that would play/compete and being able to play ourselves at the end of the day.

What are your college plans?

My plans for college are to go to High Point University, using the scholarship that I was awarded, to get my Bachelors in Science degree for Computer Science and minor in robotics, or another program.  I plan on living at HPU during my enrollment, getting a job on campus and joining different clubs as well, maybe join the marching band. I haven’t fully decided yet.

How was the college process for you?

The college process has been a bit stressful, especially since I would forget important deadlines until the last minute, but the staff over at HPU have been really helpful with the process. My counselor, Mrs. Garner has also been helpful with the applying to college process.

What plans do you have for the future?

My plan for the upcoming summer is to attend a summer advantage program hosted by HPU to get ahead in college.  After college I plan on getting a job as a programmer for either video game company, or to get a robotics degree and get a job in that field.
